Individual volunteers are what deliver Operation Red Nose to the City of Prince George. We are looking for people to drive, navigate and operate the phones at headquarters on every night of the campaign.
What a night looks like
Volunteers meet at our headquarters (the ICBC Claims Centre on 15th Avenue) on each night of operation for food, training and conversation with the other volunteers. All training and information about the program is provided when you first arrive – just be sure to bring your valid driver’s licence. Coffee, refreshments and snacks are there for working volunteers; help yourself!
Driving teams are made up of three people: the driver of the client’s vehicle, the navigator who supports the driver and stays in touch with dispatch, and the escort driver who follows in their own car. Teams are dispatched as ride requests come in. After each ride the team reunites, and the navigator calls dispatch by cell phone or radio for the next one. On an average night 10 to 30 teams are on call – and they are fed, entertained and well looked after.
Find a couple of friends, or we will find you a team. Exciting prizes are drawn for some lucky volunteers just for coming out!
How signing up works
- Apply early. The sooner we receive your application, the more choice you have of dates. After November 30 we fill remaining dates where needed, first come, first served.
- Individuals and groups are welcome. Our coordinators form teams of three. If your company or group would like to come as a team, we will work with you to arrange it.
- A committee member will call you to confirm your date or dates, only for the dates you marked as available on your application.
- A Police Information Check is required for every position on the Operation Red Nose team. See the application page for the steps.
What you’ll feel
- Warm and fuzzy. There is a very good feeling in knowing you have made a difference in your community.
- Fun and fellowship. It is a great way to get to know others and be part of a team.
